Commercialising proprietary processes for the recovery of valuable critical materials
WHAT
Neometals has partnered with 150-year-old German plant builder SMS group GmbH (“SMS”), in a 50:50 incorporated joint venture (“Primobius GmbH”), to recover critical materials from production scrap and end of life lithium-ion batteries (LiBs).
Primobius holds an exclusive licence to commercialise the patented hydrometallurgical refining process, originally developed by Neometals, with royalties payable to a separate IP holding company, equally co-owned with SMS.
Primobius aims to generate returns from the design, supply and installation of recycling plants and generate royalties from licencing technology to future plant owners.

WHY
STATUS
Primobius is operating a small commercial Spoke operation in Hilchenbach, Germany and is currently installing and commissioning a 2,500tpa integrated recycling plant for Mercedes Benz in Kuppenheim, Germany. Industrial scale validation through the successful commissioning of this plant is a prerequisite to the global rollout its larger recycling plant packages.
